Prayer and Praise to God Our Anchor and Our Help Along the Way

All thanks and praise be to God for the continued ministry of nurture and spiritual encouragement provided by our Prayer and Praise to God Newsletter. When I think back over the last nineteen months, this question comes to mind: How are we making it through...through this COVID19 pandemic...through this virtual expression of church...and through the uncertainty we experience in our living? My answer to this question is that we are making it through because we are anchored in God and still yet st...

Nurture, Born of God's Love

God has given us fathers and grandfathers, uncles, brothers, cousins, step fathers, fathers in law, spiritual dads, mentors and all men who have answered the call to Godly nurture. On this observance of Father’s day in the life of our beloved Fifteenth Street Presbyterian Church family, I give God thanks for all men who nurture and model loving others as Christ has loved them.

When I think of the role played by our fathers and all men who daily answer the call to nurture, I am reminded th...

THE FRUITS OF NURTURE BORN OF GOD'S LOVE

Regardless of where our journey continues to take us, we can be encouraged by the assurance that God abides with us. Scriptures tell us in the Gospel of John, “I am the vine, you are the branches. Those who abide in me and I in them bear much fruit, because apart from me you can do nothing,” (John 15: 5). Isn’t that good news, that God abide with us – come what may. The challenge we have all along our journey is reminding ourselves, wherever the road takes us, to continue to abide i...

Beyond The Empty Tomb...Being Easter People

What does it mean to live as Easter people? All throughout the Lenten season and through Holy week, we press our way towards Easter morning arriving ready to witness, anew, the miracle of Jesus’ resurrection. Beyond Easter Sunday morning, we quickly fall back into our routine of living. Being Easter people means that we spend everyday in our living empowered by the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

On Easter morning, Mary and others made their way to the tomb where the body of Jesus had been l...

Looking Unto Jesus

Grace and peace to you each! The Lenten journey is a time of journeying forward by faith, with intention given to spiritual disciplines including prayer, fasting and turning away from distractions and temptations as we turn our attention towards God. Symbolic of the 40 days of temptation from the Devil experienced by Christ during a journey through wilderness, the Lenten journey is a time of repentance, renewal and restoration with hope, that points us towards personal and communal resurrection....

Along The Way

A familiar line from the song, “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” reminds us of the faithfulness of God. When I hear the words, “God of our weary years, God of our silent tears, thou who has brought us thus far on the way,” sung, I am reminded of the presence of God with all people throughout their living. As a pastor and historian, the observance of Black History month reminds me of the importance of the Christian faith among African Americans in their pursuit of equality.

When I think about the in...

ABIDING AND ABOUNDING TOGETHER ALONG THE WAY

The start of a New Year naturally brings wonder about what lies ahead. As I pray about my pastoral and professional plans, hopes and expectations for 2021, I find myself asking myself, “how” will I approach the experience of living in the New Year.

My answer to this important moment of wonder is to continue to abide in the Word of God so that I may continue to abound in the works of God. As I journey alongside each of you as you encounter God and engage the ministries of Fifteenth Street Pr...

While We Wait.....Abiding in Advent and Anticipating Christmas

Grace and Peace!

In the scriptures and hymns at the start of this Advent season, we hear a plea, both for help and hope.  The first verse of Isaiah chapter 64, opens with a request for God’s presence to come and shake up the world so that “nations might tremble.”  Advent is a season observed in our Christian liturgical year as a time of anticipation, waiting and celebration observing the birth of Christ.  “Advent’ in Latin means “arrival” or “coming.” During Advent we...

Prayer and Praise to God for November

Grace and peace and greetings from Pastor Praylow!

In Psalm 100:1, we are encouraged to render thanks to our God for God’s goodness and steadfast love towards us. As we journey towards the end of this year, let us also look back in gratitude for our blessings from God.  Throughout the current COVID-19 pandemic, much has changed as we have re-imagined community and the work of God’s church.

And yet, we have much for which we should be thankful! For the promise that God will never leave us nor...

Prayer and Praise to God for October

Dear Fifteenth Street Church Family and Friends,

Grace and peace be unto you! Welcome to the launch of our “Prayer and Praise to God” newsletter. We are reminded in scripture, that as we  go through the ebbs and flows of life, to “humble ourselves under the mighty hand of God, trusting that God will lift us in due time, as we cast our cares upon God, who cares for us,” (1" Peter 5.7).

Throughout the COVID-19 Pandemic, we have relearned, afresh and anew,
that “all of our help come...
