Luggage Drive - January 12, 2018

This morning, thanks to the generous hearts of our church family, we were able to deliver to the National Center for Children and Families, Washington, DC, location, nearly 40 new or gently used pieces of luggage to be used by young people who are aging-out of foster care.

Anne Vaughn graciously opened the church, Rev. Bell offered a wonderful prayer blessing for the recipients and volunteers James Cox, Jimmy Butler and Benny McCottry all showed up to help load the luggage and drive to the Center.

Program Coordinator Robin Galloway was delighted and very appreciative for the gift. She explained that although foster parents are encouraged to provide luggage of some sort to the departing youth, they most often cannot afford anything more than large plastic trash bags. Being able to go out into the world on their own with their belongings in actual suitcases and luggage provides a sense of dignity and self-worth for these young people.

God is so good and within our church community we are very blessed for the spirit of love, support and generosity that is alive and well at Fifteenth Street Presbyterian Church!  Jesus said, “Whatever you have done to the least of these, you have done to me.”

Concert Across America to End Gun Violence - September 24, 2017

At Fifteenth Street Presbyterian Church, we don’t stop trying to end gun violence in every way that we can.  We know that music can make us feel uplifted, contented and moreover can easily spread from one sensory system to another. We want to help people understand that guns have no place in helping people feel uplifted and contented.

So, the Concerts Across America which are held annually in many areas across the country, are about using music, food and love to bring us together for enjoyment and a sense of community  while helping us to get the message across to many that in a civilized society, some controls must be placed on weapons of war.  (Photos by SaVanna Wanzer)
